Winter Delights

Are winter sports up your alley? With a world-class Nordic ski and snowshoe area, outdoor ice skating on ponds or prepared rinks, sledding throughout the region, snow tubing, and two Alpine resorts as bookends ... you've come to the right place.

Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury offers 65 trails (17 novice, 32 intermediate and 16 expert) covering 230 ski-able acres (22 miles of terrain). With a summit elevation of 2,743 feet, a vertical drop of 1,510 feet (the highest in southern New Hampshire), and a half-pipe and Alpine terrain park, you're in for some fun.

There's not much time to wait with the 10 lifts running, but take time to visit the beautiful lodge and Goosefeathers Pub for a quick respite and good food.

At Ragged Mountain Resort you can find affordable big mountain skiing and snowboarding experiences on 200 + acres of trails, 98% state-of-the-art snowmaking coverage, nine lifts (including a six-pack!), and two New England colonial-style lodges (including the Pitchfork Pub) providing all the amenities a family could need.

If Nordic skiing is what you seek, visit the Eastman Cross Country Ski Center in Grantham. Experience world class cross country skiing on 17 miles of perfectly groomed trails that are enjoyed by skiers from all over New England. Cross Country Skiing is serious business in New Hampshire and at Eastman. It's your one stop winter activity center - cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice skating, sledding and much more!! Ski, skate, snowshoe and sled rentals are available.

Strapping skis to your feet isn't for you but you still want to head down a mountain? Bring a sled and find a hill, or visit Ragged Mountain Resort's tubing park day or night.

You can try ice skating on outdoor rinks in New London, Sunapee and Newport, or on some of the smaller ponds throughout our region.

What? You hate winter and can't wait for golf season? Visit Grantham Indoor and hit a few on their driving range or tee off at a simulator and play golf on one of more than 50 courses from all over the world. There are 20 different modes of play, you get complete ball flight data and four players can play 9 holes in 2 hours. They even have a restaurant right there!

Can't do it all in one day? Stay a while longer at one of the inns, bed & breakfasts or cottages in the area. Information on lodging, dining, shopping and more is available at www.sunapeevacations.com.
